The Radar River Rats was founded in 1985 as the "HESEA Water Ski Club", a Hughes Aircraft Company club in El Segundo, California, by Catherine Ohl, Ray Estrada, Keith Lyon, John Burns, and John Siebold. As the Hughes Aircraft Company was sold off the Rats became a part of the Raytheon family. As always you do not need to be an employee of Raytheon to join us.
Our Mission
The Radar River Rats is a non-profit organization dedicated to the real appreciation of water skiing, wake boarding, tubing and more. We run bimonthly water ski weekend trips to Needles Marina on the Colorado River in Needles, CA. Occasionally, we might run a week long houseboat trip to Lake Powell.
Our Volunteers
The Radar River Rats is an all volunteer organization. We have an elected board [President, Vice-President, Secretary and Treasurer]. In addition the executive board appoints chairmen to handle Membership, Reservations, Trips, Boat Driver Coordination and Communications. We are always looking for new people and ideas. Meet the current board here.
Everyone Helps
There is at least one trip leader on each of our weekend trips. We expect everyone to lend a hand when asked as it makes the trip fun for everyone. Breakfasts are do-it-yourself meals. Lunch and dinner are group projects. Read more about our trips and camping here.
Board Meetings
Monthly board meetings are held on the first Monday of every month from March through November in the El Segundo area. We meet at a board member’s home. Call 858-467-9469 for location. Everyone is invited to attend the meetings.
Our Affiliations
The Radar River Rats is a member of the Los Angeles Council, the FWSA (Far West Ski Association), and the NSCF (National Ski Council Federation).
